A conference will be held in Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh on September 9-10 to discuss a project to develop social work profession, announced the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs at a press briefing in Hanoi on September 6.

On March 25, 2010, the Prime Minister approved the project to develop social work into a profession in the next ten years (2010-2020), raise public awareness of social work profession, build up a pool of social workers and assistants along with developing a system of social work services at all levels to set up an advanced social welfare regime.

Of the total funding for the project, VND1,294 billion will come from the state budget, VND1,120 billion from local budget and VND65 billion from ODA and foreign aids.

During the 2010-2015, the country will strive to increase the number of civil servants, employees and assistants by 10 percent and improve skills for half of the social workers at all levels.
