The German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged 328,000 Euro to help clear mines and reduce poverty in central Thua Thien-Hue province in 2008.

Since 1998, the ministry has donated US$3.81 million to Thua Thien-Hue province to carry out a bomb and mine clearance project. The money was channelled through Potsdam Kommunikation and Solidarity Service International (SODI) to help clear mines and explosives on 655 hectares and resettle 764 households in the targeted areas in Phu Loc, Huong Thuy and Huong Tra districts.

Head of the ministry’s humanitarian aid agency Johannes Dirscherl and SODI leaders recently worked with provincial authorities to review the project.

Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Cao, spoke highly of the German Government’s assistance, and promised to implement the project effectively.
