More than 300 delegates from state management agencies, enterprises, and localities in key economic areas of the south gathered at a September 22 symposium in Ho Chi Minh City to discuss issues related to the development of high-quality human resources.

According to reports at the event, only 8.4 million out of more than 20 million trained workers in 2010 met quality demands by recruiters.

This was attributable to slow shifts in state policymaking and poor incentives.

Participants suggested a number of solutions to improve the quality of human resources and the demand of economic integration, such as working out suitable strategies to attract competent workers, and improving the connection between training establishments and businesses.

Hua Ngoc Thuan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said ideas from the symposium are very useful for setting socio-economic targets and devising the City’s high-quality human resources development programme.
