A seminar held in Hanoi on September 10 assessed the efficiency of the job market, the effectiveness of job placement centres in the 2006-2010 period, and forecast demand for human resources.

At the seminar, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan called for a comprehensive assessment of employment centres, labour market, and forecast demand for human resources.

She added that it is important to improve the accuracy of labour forecasts and strengthen co-ordination between domestic and foreign experts to perfect a short and long-term labour forecast model.

Delegates also discussed the unemployment rate which stands at over 2 percent in the country and 4 percent in urban areas. This is partly due to the fact that only 20 percent of labour force has been trained. Meanwhile, industrial parks in some provinces like Long An, Dong Nai, and Binh Duong are in need of skilled workers.

According to the National Centre for Labour Market Forecasts, Vietnam will have 60 million people of working age by 2020 and the unemployment rate is forecast to rise to 2.5 percent.
