Granma newspaper, a press agency of the Cuban Communist Party, issued an article about the 12th National Assembly election in Vietnam in its May 21 edition.

The newspaper wrote that on May 20, more than 50 million eligible Vietnamese voters had cast their ballots at 182 constituencies in 64 provinces and cities, to select 500 deputies for the 12th National Assembly, term 2007-2012.


General secretary of the Vietnam Communist Party Nong Duc Manh, member of the Party Political Bureau Truong Tan Sang and Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh all voted at the polling station No.4 at Quan Thanh ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.


The article said that women candidates for the 12th National Assembly accounted for 37.5 percent and candidates from ethnic minority groups made up 21.4 percent. The election was thoroughly prepared by the Central Election Council after three consultations and direct meetings between candidates and voters.


On this occasion, Cuba National Television, on May 20, broadcast news and images of Vietnam’s 12th National Assembly election. The television also introduced and praised the revolutionary cause of late President Ho Chi Minh to mark the 117th anniversary of his birthday.
