Vietnam profile promoted globally

(VOV) - Prof Phan Huy Le, head of the Vietnam Association of Historical Science, says Vietnamese Studies is becoming an increasingly popular subject around the world, and will continue to develop in future.

Prof Le granted an exclusive interview to VOV ahead of the fourth international seminar on Vietnamese Studies, scheduled for November 26-28 in Hanoi.

VOV: Why are Vietnamese Studies researchers interested in this field?

Prof Le: To get to know Vietnam, international researchers often start with Vietnamese language studies, followed by the country’s history, its arts and literature, and its socio-economy.

History will form the core of discussions at the three-day seminar which ranges a wide spectrum of areas, not only the history of Vietnam but that of all its society’s sectors.

VOV: Could you give a brief summary of the results of the three previous seminars?

Prof Le: We have learned a lot from international research projects because of their practicality. Most of these projects have been released publicly and are updated and presented directly at seminars in Vietnam.

I think these seminars have academic and practical significance to Vietnam. More importantly, such exchanges and meetings have promoted Vietnam’s image more comprehensively and objectively.

Many Vietnamese Studies researchers are working as consultants for administrations of foreign countries that have developed relations with Vietnam. In other words, they have established an important channel for Vietnam to accelerate its international integration as it works towards sustainable development.

VOV: Could you reveal some information about delegations participating in the upcoming seminar?

Prof Le: The organising board has received registrations from 36 countries around the world, a record figure so far. Notably, large numbers of scholars from Mongolia, Southeast Asia, and Africa have registered to attend the symposium. Those from South Asian nations such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan will also take part in the event.

This means Vietnamese Studies has captured the attention of international academics through its recent increasing role and advancing position in the world.
