Strengthening the strategic partnership with Japan has always been Vietnam’s consistent policy and one of the top priority areas in its foreign policy.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement during a meeting with President of the Communist Party of Japan (CPJ) Shii Kazuo in Tokyo on October 31.

PM Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese Government and people are willing to do their utmost to help Japan reconstruct the country after the tsunami and earthquake last March.

He expressed his hopes that Japan will overcome the consequences of the disaster soon and continue to build prosperity in the country.

He said during his current visit, Vietnam and Japan will discuss major measures to make their ties of friendship and cooperation more comprehensive and sustainable.

The PM appreciated the CPJ’s sending a working mission to Vietnam to attend the fourth theoretical exchange between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the CPJ to deepen ties between the two Parties and boost friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

CPJ President Shii Kazuo welcomed PM Dung and his entourage to Japan and expressed his delight at the fine development of the traditional relationship between the two countries in all fields, especially in economics, trade, investment, education and training, which has brought practical benefits to both sides.

He praised Vietnam’s achievements over the past 25 years of implementing the Renewal process and affirmed that the CPJ will continue to support stronger Japan-Vietnam relations in the future.

While meeting with Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yukio Edano, PM Dung thanked his host for accelerating the signing key projects, including those to exploit race earth and build the Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Plant.

He asked Minister Edano to direct his ministry to work closely with relevant Vietnamese ministries to boost bilateral cooperation, especially in economics, trade and investment.

Minister Edano affirmed that he will work with relevant Vietnamese agencies to implement the signed agreements. He also revealed that Japan will develop special industrial zones in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Haiphong.

On the same day, PM Dung met with leaders of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Union and several other Japanese major economic groups.
