The Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with the northern Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee held a press briefing in Hanoi on June 13 to announce that the 2008 Phu Dong Sport Festival will be held at the Labour and Culture House in Phu Tho province from August 1-9.

Around 12,000 athletes from 64 provinces and cities will compete in 17 events, including track and field, swimming, chess, table tennis, football, volleyball, shuttle cock, badminton, basket ball, Karate, crossbow, wrestling, Wushu and Jodo.

The festival is expected to attract around nearly 100 foreign guests and 300 reporters.

Nguyen Thi Kim Hai, vice chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee said that Phu Tho is gearing up for the event. All the sporting facilities have been upgraded to serve the event.
