HCM City CPI up 0.44pct in January

(VOV) - Ho Chi Minh City’s consumer price index (CPI) in January rose 0.44 percent over the previous month and 3.6 percent from a year ago.

The Municipal Statistics Office reported that food and food services went up 0.44 percent, including food 0.17 percent and foodstuffs 1.43 percent.

Among other essential items, beverages and tobacco rose 0.21 percent, garments and footwear 0.94 percent, housing-electricity-water-fuel and building materials 0.26 percent, household utensils 0.04 percent, medicine and medical services 0.26 percent, education services 0.09 percent, and culture-entertainment-tourism 0.38 percent.

Commodities that saw prices fall were transport services down 0.02 percent, post-telecommunication services 0.09 percent, and other goods and services 0.02 percent.

In January, gold prices increased up to 1.72 percent, and the US dollar also inched up 0.17 percent against December 2012.
