US officials will soon meet unilaterally with representatives from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) representatives to facilitate the resumption of talks on ending DPRK’s nuclear programme, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said on November 10.

The US delegation will be led by the administration's leading negotiator with the DPRK, Stephen Bosworth, who will travel to the DPRK capitol of Pyongyang.

In recent weeks, the DPRK has sought direct talks with the United States in what American officials see as a possible restart of full negotiations with the US and other countries over ending Pyongyang's nuclear programme.

A possible Bosworth mission had been widely anticipated, but this is the first formal announcement.

The so-called "six party" talks on the DPRK's nuclear program had come to a standstill. But the Bosworth trip could lead to new negotiations between the DPRK and the United States, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Japan, Russia and China.

This new development comes just before President Obama travels to Asia next week, where he will stop in the RoK.
