The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee held a meeting on November 27 to review 20 years of combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic, implement a 5-year action plan to cope with HIV/AIDS situation and launch the national action month against HIV/AIDS.
Addressing the meeting, Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu said that the city should strengthen the quality of disease prevention to fight the disease in a sustainable way.
It should also call for national and international investment and resources to improve the effectiveness and stability of the HIV/AIDS prevention campaign and reduce the number of newly infections.
The number of HIV/AIDS infected people in the city is account for a quarter of those in the whole country. After 20 years of combating the disease, the city has gained a number of achievements and taken some initiatives in disseminating information to raise public awareness of the prevention and treatment of the disease and care of HIV/AIDS patients.
