Spain strongly supports Vietnam's bid for World Trade Organisation (WTO) membership, as well as the country's candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Spanish King Juan Carlos I made the statement during his talk to Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Do Ngoc Son at a reception on July 3 in the presence of Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos Cuyaube.

The King stressed that Spain is willing to expand its co-operative ties with Vietnam and extended his thanks to the Vietnamese leaders and people for their warm welcome and hospitality towards the King and the Queen during their recent visit to Vietnam.

He pointed to the need for the two countries to quickly implement the agreements reached by the two sides during the visit, particularly those relating to industry, tourism and education.

For his part, the Ambassador confirmed Vietnam's determination to continue to foster co-operative ties in the common interest of the two countries in different sectors, particularly in economy, trade, tourism, culture and education.
Earlier the same day, the Ambassador presented his credentials to the King.
