The Defence and Security Committees of the Vietnamese and Lao National Assemblies held talks in Danang on September 13.

The two sides briefed each other on their socio-economic situations and the results of Vietnam’s 13th National Assembly (NA) elections and Laos’ 7th NA election. They discussed and agreed upon cooperative programmes between the two defence and security committees in 2012 and for the 2011-2016 period, as well as other issues of mutual concern.

Representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Defence also briefed on the political and socio-economic situation in the region and the world.

The Vietnamese side also reported on the committee’s structure, results and experiences in its 12th term and directions for the next term.

Nguyen Kim Khoa, Chairman of the Vietnam’s NA Committee for National Defence and Security, said the talks provided an opportunity for the two committees to exchange experiences in fulfilling their tasks and functions, and strengthen the special solidarity between the two countries.
