The Japanese embassy in Hanoi on May 23 granted the Order of the Rising Sun to Tran Dinh Hoan, former president of the Vietnamese-Japanese Friendship Parliamentarians Group.
The order was to recognize Mr Hoan’s contributions to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
As president of the group since 2003, Mr Hoan helped develop the organization and make it the most active member among the Friendship Parliamentarians Union of the National Assembly.
He made important contributions to exchanging members of the two countries’ national assemblies as well as strengthening cultural and sport activities of the two countries.
Mr Hoan is the third Vietnamese to have received the Japanese Imperial decoration after former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan.
