A National Assembly (NA) delegation led by NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, who is also head of the Central Election Council, on March 12 made inspection tours of the northern provinces of Ha Tay and Vinh Phuc in the lead up to the upcoming NA election salated for May.

The delegation heard reports on the two provinces’ preparatory plans which have been carried out at the provincial, district and communal levels to make the election a great success. Accordingly, Ha Tay and Vinh Phuc provincial Fatherland Front committees will organize meetings between candidates and voters.

The NA delegation asked the two provinces to deal with people’s complaints and resolve arising problems to ensure citizens’ rights and democracy of the election.

NA Chairman Trong praised the two provinces for thorough preparations for the 12th NA election and noted that as the NA has been renewed and operated in a more democratic manner, it is essential to select qualified candidates for the NA.

Candidates for the 12th National Assembly election must represent people of different social strata with different religions and from different ethnic groups, while ensuring their good virtues and capabilities, he said.

Mr Trong urged Ha Tay and Vinh Phuc to carry out the second and third consultation rounds and strictly implement all necessary steps in accordance with regulations. It is also important to pay due attention to NA election supervision, better solve election-related petitions and promote propaganda activities, he added.
