The Czech Republic officially opened an Honorary Consulate in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 3, the first foreign consulate in the city.

Hai Phong has received substantial support from the Czech Republic government for the city's major projects, such as the Vietnam-Czech Republic Hospital and the Vietnam-Czech Republic Culture Palace.
