Vietnam, China jointly prepare for Chinese Party leader's Vietnam visit

VOV.VN -Both nations have agreed to make thorough preparations for the General Secretary and President of China, Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Vietnam and his attendance at the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders' Week in the central city of Da Nang.

Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh had talks on November 2 in Hanoi with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during which, Minh affirmed the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Government's desire to develop comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China and support the country in making positive contributions to the maintenance of peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.

Both sides consented to work hand in hand to prepare for the CPC General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s Vietnam visit and his attendance at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2017, and effectively realize agreements and common perceptions reached by the two countries’ leaders. 

They pledged to maintain exchange visits by high-ranking leaders, Parties, law-making bodies and Fronts, further enhance the role of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation and the two foreign ministries in directing bilateral ties, and enhance cooperation mechanisms between diplomatic, national defence, security and law enforcement sectors.

The two countries aim to raise two-way trade in a stable, balanced and sustainable manner, effectively tap China’s credit packages to Vietnam and continue partnering in transport, agriculture, environment and natural resources, science-technology, climate change response, sustainable protection and use of Mekong – Lancang water resources, exchange of data on border river hydrology, and people-to-people exchange. 
They concurred to fully implement legal regulations on mainland border, accelerate the opening and upgrade of border gates as agreed, facilitate customs clearance, develop border economy, maintain security and order, and coordinate in issues of shared concern at regional and global forums. 

The FM Minh urged the two sides to seriously comply with agreements and common perceptions agreed by State and Party leaders, including the Vietnam-China Agreement on Basic Principles Guiding the Settlement of the Issues at Sea while promoting the efficiency of current negotiating and cooperation mechanisms to build trust,  firmly settling disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), fully and effectively implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, towards reaching a Code of Conduct in the East Sea, dealing with disputes at sea, and avoiding any actions to complicate and expand the disputes to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.

Briefing the host on the major outcomes of the 19th Congress of the CPC, Wang said Party chief Xi’s selection of Vietnam as the first country to visit following the congress demonstrated that the CPC, State and he himself place great importance on fostering the friendly neighborliness and all-round cooperation with Vietnam. 


China supports Vietnam’s successful organization of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, he said, adding that the Chinese Foreign Ministry will work closely with the Vietnamese counterpart and agencies concerned to propel sustainable and stable Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership forwards.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang YiWang is on a working visit to Vietnam from November 2-4, following the success of the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
