Explaining why the movement was called “Youth Zeal”, Secretary of the VNPT Youth Union Nguyen Dong Long said, “Only the word zeal can raise young people’s creativity and help them overcome the shortcomings and slackness of each individual. A good individual will help form a good collective group to serve the common interest of the community.”

The VNPT Youth Union’s activities taken during the past year mainly focused on

attaching individual interests to collective interests. With the great efforts of more than 8,000 youth union members, the VNPT Youth Union has made significant contributions to stimulating social activities. In 2006, The Youth Union received Forever 20 Award in recognition of its contributions to creative labour and science and technology. In addition, VNPT youth union members assisted armed forces and young people in rural areas by applying information and technology in their work. In particular, they provided Internet-related knowledge for nearly 10,000 rural students in 13 provinces and cities throughout the country and raised nearly VND60 million to help people in the central region overcome the aftermaths of natural disasters.

According to Nguyen Thi Van Huong, an outstanding youth member who is working for the Planning Section of the Data and Information and Technology Centre in Zone No 1, the VNPT Youth Union’s practical activities have greatly helped young people study and do business well.

Van Huong is very active in the Youth Union’s current movement but has always fulfilled her role as a youth union leader. Like Van Huong, many other young people have tried their best to contribute to the success of the VNPT Youth Union- movements over the past years.

Promoting what they achieved in 2006, all members of the VNPT Youth Union are determined to step up the movement “Tuoi tre nhiet huyet” (Youth Zeal) through three campaigns, namely “Hinh anh VNPT chinh la hinh anh cua ban” (The image of VNPT is also yours), “Hay suy nghi cho ben vung VNPT” (Thinking of a sustainable VNPT) and “Tuoi tre VNPT noi mang tri thuc” (VNPT youths create an intellectual network). It is essential to work out concrete plans of action to successfully implement the movement.

According to Nguyen Dong Long, secretary of the VNPT Youth Union, it is necessary to understand the aspirations and desires of each member, especially in the current context when young people often pay due attention to individualism, thus combining hobbies of each individual with the common activities of the organization. As a result, the “Tuoi tre nhiet huyet” movement will develop strongly in both the VNPT and the whole community, encouraging young people to make more contributions. The future of the country depends large on the young generations who work hard and study well for the benefit of the individual, family, community and the whole society.
