Senior officials from the social security institutes of eight ASEAN member countries will gather in Laos this week for the 21st meeting of the group’s Social Security Association (ASSA).

Participants at the April 23-25 meeting entitled “Health Security for All” will discuss community health and share experiences in social security, said Lao Social Security Organisation Director General Khamphouang Inthaseng.

He said the International Labour Organisation (ILO) will also participate and the meeting is expected to pass a memorandum of understanding from the last ASSA meeting.

ASSA member countries include Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Founded in 1998, ASSA works to promote regional social security through increasing cooperation and experience and information sharing among member countries.
