HCM City, Leipzig strengthen cooperation

(VOV) - Mayor of Leipzig Burkhard Jung has passed on his city’s business community’s interest in Ho Chi Minh City investment opportunities, especially in environmental technology and waste treatment.

At a December 12–13 working session with HCM City People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan, Jung said the German Government encourages businesses to invest in southern Vietnam’s urban centre, and hopes HCM City authorities will facilitate business activities.

Mayor Jung said the two cities’ potential for cooperation would be best served by focusing on establishing closer links between tertiary education institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Quan welcomed Jung to the city, admitting that cooperation between Leipzig and HCM City remains comparatively modest. He expressed hopes Jung’s visit would inspire the two cities to work together on drafting an official cooperative program.

During the working session, host and guest discussed a range of issues including future cooperation in culture, healthcare, education and training, and sports.

They authorised their respective agencies to begin preparing documents and projects for implementation in 2014.
