Thirty-one players of the national U23 football squad began their first warm-up exercises at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on September 5 to prepare for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Laos.

However, some of the players in the line-up were not present as they are involved in the National U21 Football Championship or suffering from injuries.

The squad is scheduled to train in China from September 14-24 before heading for Laos to compete in the Pre-SEA Games tournament from October 4-10 where they will take on tough rivals such as Thailand, Malaysia and their hosts - Laos.

After the tournament, the players will fly back to Vietnam where they will play a friendly match with the Chunam Dragons Club from the Republic of Korea (RoK) on October 21 as part of the 2009 Vietnam-RoK cultural week.
