Mekong Delta provinces lend helping hand to needy people
VOV.VN - A number of Mekong Delta provinces have launched a broad range of charitable activities to help poor households, social policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged children.
The Children’s Hospital in Soc Trang province received a high-quality ambulance worth more than US$65,000 on December 29.
This is the 13th ambulance provided by the Soc Trang Lotterry Limited Company to local hospitals. In 2017, the company donated US$220,000 to help build 167 houses for poor households and social policy beneficiaries in the province. The Soc Trang Association of the Elderly has also presented gifts for 250 lonely elders.
The same day, a program honoring individuals and organizations who contributed to social security activities in 2017 was organized in Hau Giang province. With around US$11.5 million raised from donors, the province has built over 200 houses, repaired 350 homes, and built nearly 600 others, along with dozens of other charity projects.
The southern province of Bac Lieu has taken numerous measures to care for children living in extremely difficult circumstances over the past three years through a community-based project.
At a conference held on December 29 reviewing the three-year implementation of the project, the provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs announced that Bac Lieu has set up 22 clubs and collected a total of VND23 billion to take care of, educate and protect underprivileged children.
The project has benefited nearly 20,900 children, of whom all are provided with health insurance cards, nearly 1,500 receive monthly allowances and more than 100 are brought up at the Social Protection Centre and non-public social protection establishments.
The province sets a target of assisting 95% of children living in extremely difficult circumstances by 2020 and will go ahead with the childcare task calling for more support from local administrations, schools, families and the entire society.
On this occasion, 18 outstanding units and individuals who have made positive contributions to child care in Bac Lieu were honoured.
