A number of Hanoi people wearing helmets when riding motorbikes increased dramatically on all the roads on September 17.

Hanoi has officially asked civil servants and Party members to implement the municipal Party Committee’s instruction on wearing helmets as of September 15.

All staff of the Hanoi city People’s Committee on September 17 wore helmets when going to work. Similarly, cadres from the Hanoi Department of Trade also strictly followed the instruction.

In Hoan Kiem district, the youth union reminded its members and cadres to wear helmets when riding motorbikes and disseminate information to others about the instruction.

Nguyen Khanh Long, secretary of the Hoan Kiem district youth union, said “We have set up youth teams to remind cadres to wear helmets. We consider wearing helmets an emulation movement for youth members.”

To ensure 100 percent of cadres wearing helmets, many State agencies have provided financial support for cadres to buy helmets.

Lam Quoc Hung, deputy chairman of the Hoan Kien district people’s Committee, said PJCO has provided helmet insurance cover for its customers. But the important thing is to raise people’s awareness of the benefits of wearing helmets.

The same day, Radio the Voice of Vietnam and many central agencies in Hanoi encouraged all staff to wear helmets when going to work. Before the instruction was issued many civil servants had already wore helmets when riding motorbikes.
