Thai Binh should promote democracy and closely work with the State to create new steps of development aiming to improve local people’s living standards, said State President Truong Tan Sang.

During his fact-finding tour in the northern province of Thai Binh on February 4, President Sang inspected a pilot project to build new rural areas in Thanh Tan commune, Kien Xuong district. He praised the initial results the Thanh Tan project has already obtained in a short period of time, which have helped local people enjoy a better life.

After three years of implementing the project, Thanh Tan’s economic growth hit 14.48 percent in 2011, with annual per capita income of VND13.8 million.

At a meeting with key provincial leaders, President Sang again spoke highly of Thai Binh’s efforts to implement effective solutions to build new rural areas, under which all communes in the province have finalized their planning and 70 key communes have developed concentrated goods production areas, giving a boost to Thai Binh’s socio-economic development.

In the context of the Vietnamese and global economies facing difficulties, Thai Binh still reached an economic growth rate of 10.12 percent and reduced the household poverty rate to 9.16 percent, while keeping the local economy growing on the right track and maintaining social order and national defence and security.

Mr Sang asked the province to make greater efforts in managing socio-economic development in 2012 which is predicted to face a lot of difficulties and challenges.

Thai Binh needs to strengthen Party building and economic restructuring by focusing on investment, industrial development, and new rural areas, he noted.

Mr Sang said he hopes the Party committee, administration and people of Thai Binh will perform well their socio-economic tasks for this and following years, as a contribution to the successful implementation of the 11th National Party Congress resolution.
