Leaders of Laos’ Champasak province and Vietnam’s Central Highland Dak Lak province have agreed to further promote bilateral co-operative relations.

The commitment was made at a meeting between a delegation from Laos’ Champasak province led by its provincial party committee secretary Su Kan Ma Ha La and Dak Lak provincial authorities on September 20.

Nie Thuat, secretary of the Dak Lak provincial party committee said during the past two years the Dak Lak Rubber Company has planted more than 3,600ha of rubber trees, 400ha of cashew nuts and 95ha of coffee in Champasak, generating jobs for nearly 600 households in the province. In addition, the company has built a primary school and a clinic centre in the locality.

In the future, the company will plant an additional 2,000-2,500ha of rubber trees and 1,500-2,500ha of cashew nuts and provide five scholarships for Lao students to study at Tay Nguyen University and Dak Lak Medical College.

Dak Lak province will implement a project to build a hydro-electricity plant, a bio-tourism zone and commercial centre in Champasak.
