Vietnamese and Lao Foreign Ministers stressed the need to further promote co-operation between units of the two ministries in the near future to meet the two sides' requirements for expanding external relations.

The commitment was made during the fourth regular meeting of Vietnamese and Lao Foreign Ministries in the central city of Da Nang from May 20-21.

At the meeting, co-chaired by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien and Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Somsavat Lengsavat, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the agreement in the previous meeting in Vientiane in April 2005.

The two FMs praised the results of the two ministries' co-operation, informed each other of their respective countries' situation and discusses regional and international matters of common concern and measures to promote co-operation. They agreed to promote bilateral co-operation and information exchange and coordinate diplomatic activities at regional and international forums.

Mr Lengsavat praised the success of the 10th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and thanked Vietnam for its aid to Laos' external activities.

Vietnamese FM Nien highlighted the success of the 8th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and expressed his appreciation of Laos's achievements.

The two sides agreed to convene the next meeting in Laos in 2007.
