Tien wins gold in Thailand Tennis Open

Nguyen Dac Tien of Vietnam triumphed in the Thailand Open’s U18 tennis event in Muang Thong, on May 23.

Tien was not a seed at this tournament but he overcame all title favourites to reach the final where he beat No 1 Pawit Sonlaksub 6-3, 6-2.

The 17-year-old player will now return to Vietnam and prepare for the Davis Cup competition between Thailand and Vietnam in July.

In Muang Thong’s event, Vietnam also pocketed three bronze medals in the U12, 14 and 16 classes.
