Under the framework of the FossBridge EU-Vietnam project, more than 50 Vietnamese and European enterprises are gathering in Hanoi to attend a five-day seminar on Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS).

Tran Ba Thai from the Vietnam Institute of Information Technology told a press conference on November 12 that the workshop aims to help Vietnamese enterprises get access to open source software and strengthen cooperation in the field with EU countries.

Ms Corinna von Hartrott-Noldeke, Project Manager of INWent (Organization for international human resources development of Germany), said from now till 2009, FossBridge will continue to organize training programmes for Vietnam’s software enterprises and associations. She expressed the belief that the project will be a bridge between Vietnamese enterprises and European partners to put forth cooperative initiatives and plans in free and open source projects.

The same day, another workshop was held in Hanoi to discuss cooperation between Vietnamese and the Republic of Korea (RoK) software enterprises with the participation of officials from the Korean IT Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA), and representatives from nine leading software enterprises in RoK and 26 software enterprises in Vietnam
.

During the event, co-organized by KIPA and the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA), participants shared their practical experiences in the field of software and discussed development trends in such areas as security, finance, e-government.

Both VINASA and KIPA expressed the hope that they will promote bilateral cooperation in the field of software and information technology to build a Vietnam-RoK economic model.
