Kien Giang province will host the country’s largest fruit festival, the first of its kind, on April 19. Cao Van Hoa, Vice Head of the Organizing Committee, tells VOV’s reporter that this is one of a series of national activities to celebrate the Liberation of South Vietnam (April 30) and the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi (October 10).

Could you brief us on preparations for the Vietnam Fruit Festival?

We are 80 percent ready for the festival, which will include three workshops and 10 competitions. The most popular contest – for delicious and safe fruit – has already received many registration forms from fruit growers. Another contest – graceful country girls – will see two rounds on the stage. In addition, there will be contests for painting, photography, and ornamental animals.

The registration period for the fairs and exhibitions has now finished. There will be 150 stands for consumer goods, 500 for selling fruits, and 50 for food and beverages.

Everything will be reviewed again on April 18.

Who are sponsoring the festival?

A large number of businesses have registered to sponsor this event; some of them have already transferred money to us. Additionally, the provincial people’s committee has also requested that all local trade activities on the province must be balanced and that all operations, even those of the organizers, must be conducted in an economical manner.

What has the province done to provide food and accommodation services for businesses and both foreign and domestic tourists to the festival?

Our province now has 2,000 beds available for guests and we’re asking HCM City and the provinces of Long An, Ben Tre and Vinh Long for further assistance. I believe the highway linking the province and HCM City will be a great help in this regard./.
