Thirty candidates of the 2007 Miss Earth pageant from five continents arrived in Nha Trang City, south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on October 30 for a special session of the international beauty contest.

They will meet with the press before the main night held in Vinpearl Land on November 1. They sent messages about their specific actions to protect the living environment and our green planet. Contestants will take part in many social activities, including caring for poor children, meeting with spectators, planting trees and cleaning the environment in Vinpearl Land and Nha Trang City.

More than 90 contestants from around the world attended the Miss Earth pageant held in Manila, the Philippines. The organising board divided them into three groups to compete in the qualifying rounds in Vietnam and north and south of the Philippines. The contest in Vietnam is co-organised by the Vinpearl Company, Elite Beauty Vietnam, the Philippine-based Carousel Productions Inc. and Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper.

Ramon Monzon, the pageant president, said it was first held in 2001 and now is one of three world’s biggest beauty contests. The number of contestants at the sixth pageant doubled compared to the first one.

At a special contest in Vinpearl Land, contestants will compete for five prizes: Miss Beauty for a Cause, Miss Fashion, Miss Charm, Best in Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress) and Miss Fitness.

The top prize, “Miss Beauty for a Cause,” will be awarded in Manila, the Philippines on November 11 while the four remaining prizes will be presented in Vinpearl Land.

Twenty-year-old Truong Thi Truc Diem will represent Vietnam in the event.
