Since 1998, a group of Vietnamese, Russian and German scientists have discovered ten new species of animals in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, a world natural heritage site in the central province of Quang Binh.

They include five species of snake and the others are geckos and lizards.

Genetic and ADN tests confirmed that many of them, including Phong Nha Ke Bang gecko, Cryptus gecko and six-horn snake, have never been seen in any other places around the world.

Dr. Thomas Ziegler, an amphibian reptile expert from Germany’s Cologne Zoo, said the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is home to many rare reptiles.

Three kinds of rare orchids have also been found in the national park.
