The National Steering Committee for Bird Flu Prevention and Control says the bird flu epidemic has showed signs of abating in northern provinces, but the risk of bird flu recurrence remains high in southern provinces.

The two northern provinces of Hung Yen and Ha Nam have been removed from the list of bird flu-hit provinces, which have yet to pass the 21-day safety level including Nghe An, Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Can Tho, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc, Quang Nam, Thai Binh, Ha Tinh and Cao Bang.

Although bird flu has been under control but the development of the disease remains complicated in some provinces, according to the Veterinary Department.

An outbreak was newly detected in a duck farm in central Quang Nam province. Around 105 ducks died and test results
showed that they were infected with the deadly virus H5N1. All the ducks had not been vaccinated yet.

The National Steering Committee for Bird Flu Prevention and Control says the risk of bird flu recurrence remains high in southern provinces, especially in the Mekong Delta as it is difficult to control free-range ducks in the summer-autumn crop.
