The police in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa has decided to reduce the jail terms of 39 prisoners on the occasion of Southern Vietnam Liberation and National Unification Day (April 30) and May Day.

 

Under the decision, six inmates will be released before their sentences end and 33 others will have their terms commuted by 3-9 months.

 

At the ceremony to announce the decision, prisoners expressed their thanks for the Party and the State’s clemency as well as timely encouragement from prison warders.

 

On the occasion, at prison A2 under the Ministry of Public Security, the provincial People’s Court also decided to commute the jail terms for 289 prisoners. Of them, 14 will be released before their terms end while 237 and 48 others will have their terms reduced by 3-6 months and 7-12 months respectively.
