The Drug Administration of Vietnam has announced that its has yet to grant permission for the import and circulation of a Chinese-originated diabetes drug branded “Tang Zhi Ning Jiao Nang.”

The move comes after China’s ban on the use of the drug following the death of two patients in the remote northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Jan. 17 and 19 after taking “Tang Zhi Ning Jiao Nang.”

The death-causing drug illegally uses the brand “Tang Zhi Ning Jiao Nang” originally owned by the “Guangxi Pingnan Pharmaceutical Co.,” according to Chinese media.

Vietnam’s pharmaceutical authorities urged relevant agencies to increase the monitoring of drug trading and use across the country.
