Promoting Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange

(VOV) -Japan Foundation President Hiroyasu Ando is visiting Vietnam from April 24–26 in an effort to boost cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The visit is part of the activity framework celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.

Talking to local media, Ando said Japan and Vietnam have enjoyed productive relations in various fields—especially in economics, investment, and culture.

Japan has redoubled its Southeast Asian cultural exchange promotion following Prime Minister Abe’s recent policy declaration prioritising the relationship with ASEAN members.

Ando acknowledged Vietnam’s regional potential and its importance to Japan’s Southeast Asian policy orientations.

Many Japanese investors have found success in Vietnam, resulting in sharp two-way trade turnover increases in recent years, he said.

He believes the two countries’ mutual understanding could be deepened through cultural, artistic, scientific, and intellectual exchanges.

Ando proposed some practical measures to introduce Japanese culture to Vietnamese audiences and expressed his wish to help Vietnam preserve its traditional cultural values.

Japan will also invite Vietnamese artists to tour the country, establishing a relationship with Japanese artists and audiences, he added.

Since beginning its Vietnam operations, the Japan Foundation has made significant contributions to promoting cultural exchange between Japan and Vietnam.
