The Asian Young Boxing Championship and the 2006 Hanoi Women’s Boxing Tournament opened in Hanoi on June 11, with the participation of more than 150 boxers from 11 countries and territories around the world.

The event provided a good opportunity for Vietnamese boxers to learn and accumulate experience to prepare for regional tournaments, especially the women’s boxing tournaments in the coming time.
Participating teams feature strong boxers from countries with developed boxing and demonstrates the rapid growth of Vietnamese boxing.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, boxers competed in direct qualifying rounds in four men’s weight categories and two women’s weight categories.

The only representative from Vietnam, Nguyen Duy Manh (54 kg-weight category) was beaten by his stronger rival, Zhenisbekov Askhat from Kazakhstan, during a total of eight rounds in the men’s categories.
