The development of the Dung Quat economic zone and Dung Quat oil refinery is a new opportunity for Quang Ngai to develop comprehensively, said Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong during his working visit to the Quang Ngai central province from May 23-24.

Quang Ngai has made a breakthrough in investment attraction and tax revenue since the implementation of the Dung Quat oil refinery project.

The Dung Quat economic zone has become a destination for domestic and foreign investors to carry out major projects.

The Dung Quat economic zone has so far granted investment permits for 113 projects, of which 44 are provided with a total registered capital of approximately US$10.3 billion and 33 will soon be up and running.

Over the past three months, the Dung Quat oil refinery has produced more than 2,000 tonnes of oil for the central region’s consumption and more than 7,000 tonnes of diesel oil for consumption nationwide.

At the working session, Mr Trong asked Quang Ngai to focus on developing its transport system and ensuring the smooth operation of the Dung Quat port at full capacity.

He also urged provincial leaders to pay more attention to remote and mountainous areas encountering special difficulties by effectively carrying out the Government’s major projects and disbursing all capital sources.

During his visit, Trong also visited the Dung Quat oil refinery, planted trees and then offered incense to former Prime Minister Pham Van Dong and a number of national heroes in their relics areas.
