A German business delegation headed by President of the German Federal Council Harald Ringstorff visited the northern city of Hai Phong on September 5.

Mr Ringstorff was accompanied by leaders of the German Federal Council and 35 German entrepreneurs involved in different fields, including shipbuilding and seaport services.

 

Speaking at a reception for the German guests, Chairman of the Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee Trinh Quang Su said that Hai Phong and Germany have long-term cooperative relations, especially in the fields of trade and investment. He introduced the city’s advantages and potential for development, focusing on the seaport system, young labour force and modern industrial zones.

 

Mr Ringstorff said that many German businesses get involved in supplying seaport services and producing equipment for the shipbuilding industry which is considered a spearhead economic sector of Hai Phong. Currently, many shipbuilding enterprises in Hai Phong are using German technology and modern equipment. Hence, the visit to Hai Phong this time will open many new cooperation opportunities for businesses of both countries, he noted.

 

Mr Ringstorff also said that many leading enterprises in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state are operating in the field of environment and energy and seeking business opportunities in Vietnam. The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state wants to cooperate with Hai Phong in developing human resources, high-tech industries and environmental protection for sustainable development.

 

On the occasion, the Selck Groups of Germany and the Hai Phong city People’s Committee signed a cooperative agreement on the building of a modern industrial zone in the city to attract more investors from the European Union (EU) and Germany.
