The information was given at a meeting between the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA) and some generals from Hanoi and its 13 neighbouring provinces on February 18 with the participation of General Phung Quang Thanh, Politburo member and Minister of National Defence.

The meeting reviewed VVA’s recent achievements including the establishment of veterans’ business associations across the country, which created more than 20,000 jobs for its members, greatly contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

Lieutenant General Tran Hanh, VVA Chairman, said the association will make more efforts to achieve its targets set by the 4^th Congress and make necessary preparations for the 5^th Congress. He said the VVA will coordinate its effort with the entire Party and people to contribute to the success of the upcoming National Assembly and People’s Councils elections.

War veterans will uphold the good virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, protect the Party, State, and socialism, and take the initiative to participate in socio-economic activities to improve people’s living conditions and struggle against bureaucracy, corruption, and other social evils, the general said.

General Thanh said he is confident that Vietnamese war veterans will be in the vanguard of poverty reduction, Party building, and the struggle against hostile forces.
