American and Vietnamese navy forces want to boost bilateral cooperation in search and rescue as well as humanitarian assistance in the future.

The agreement was reached on January 22 by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Nguyen Duc Soat, and US Pacific Fleet Commander, Admiral Gary Roughed, during their meeting in Hanoi.

The two navy forces will also exchange information in hydrometeorology, natural calamity warning, maritime security and medicine.
