A geological exploration of Sin Quyen copper mine in Lao Cai province, has found an additional 30 million tonnes of copper ore.

The information was announced by Nguyen Van Hai, Director of the Sin Quyen Cooper Sifting Company, during an interview after the company had donated a VND4.1 billion kindergarten to the province.

Another 20 million tonnes of copper ore was also discovered at a depth of -350m in Sin Quyen, raising the total amount of copper in the mine to more than 100 million tonnes.

The Vietnam Mineral Company (VIMICO) plans to raise the annual total output at the company from 1.2 million tonnes to nearly 3 million, and lengthen its operations there for another 40-50 years.

VIMICO has also implemented a number of major projects in the province, including the Minh Luong gold mine and the Ta Phoi copper mine.
