Vietnamese Film Days in honour of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi kicked off at the Smithsonian Institute in the US capital, Washington D.C., on October 1.

The event is organised by the Vietnamese embassy in the US.

The film “Choi Voi” (Adrift) directed by Bui Thac Chuyen was chosen to be shown at the opening ceremony. Earlier this year, the film was selected by the US Museum of Modern Art and the Global Film Initiative (GFI) to be shown at the Global Lens 2010 film festival in the US.

Also, on this occasion, Ambassador Le Cong Phung and his wife will hold a banquet to commemorate the 1,000th birthday of Hanoi on October 15. In November, Vietnamese classical guitarist Nguyen Thuy Quynh, who was born in Hanoi and is now living in the US, will give her own performance in the US.
