The 8th Vietnam-France meeting on decentralised cooperation entitled “Linking for Sustainable Development” opened in Hai Phong on November 5.

The meeting attracted 500 delegates from Vietnam and France, who discussed measures to promote friendship and comprehensive co-operation between Vietnam and France and devise co-operative activities in the future in line with the two countries’ development priorities.

Over the past years, Vietnam-France relations has been strengthened in many fields, such as economics, planning, urban transport infrastructure, culture, health care, education and training and science and technology and achieved significant results.

Co-operative results since the 7th meeting in Montreuil, France in 2007 affirmed that decentralized co-operation is an effective and dynamic method as it promotes available resources and encourages all administrative and local organizations to get involved.

At the meeting, the Minister of Home Affairs, Tran Van Tuan said that since the 7th meeting, co-operation between Vietnamese and French localities have made significant progress. French localities have provided much assistance for Vietnamese partners, especially in development issues.
