The export turnover of wood products has reached US$500 million in the first four months of the year, with US$150 million earned from the EU market, up 10 percent against the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Trade.

Vietnam’s major export markets in the EU include France, the UK, Germany, Holland and Spain. The country’s total export turnover of wood products is expected to exceed US$2 billion in 2006.

To secure stable materials sources, some local wooden enterprises have signed big contracts with foreign partners from Canada, Indonesia and Eastern Europe.

For example, Sai Gon Daklak (Dadaco) recently signed contracts with two Canadian corporations, namely Interwood and Canfor. The corporations will supply 150,000 cubic metres of wood per year with total value of US$250 million in the 2006-2011 period.
