Country director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam, Ayumi Konishi has praised Vietnamese leaders for doing their best to eradicate corruption. However, he said there remain many things to be done in the fight.

The signing of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in 2003, an Anti-Corruption Action Plan for Asia-Pacific and the issuance of the Law on Anti-Corruption in 2005 have shown that the Government of Vietnam is making great efforts in the fight against corruption.

Regarding the efficiency of using ADB’s official development aid for Vietnam, Mr Konishi noted ADB’s aid programmes and projects in Vietnam are very necessary. It is very important to improve the efficiency of implementing such projects even though Vietnam has obtained a remarkable economic growth rate and gained achievements in poverty reduction and hunger eradication.
