On September 6, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the new school year opening ceremony at Chau Van Liem High School in Can Tho City.

PM Dung expressed his delight at the achievements the school’s teachers and students have made. This is the only high school in Can Tho that have met national standards with the high school graduation rate reaching 99.5 percent.

The PM also highlighted the achievements made by the education and training sector across the country.

The 2010-2011 academic year is very significant as it is the first year of the country’s five-year plan (2011-2015) and a 10 year-strategy (2011-2020) on the country’s socio-economic development which he said will focus on developing top quality human resources and upgrading the national education system in the context of international integration.

The PM urged the education and training sector to implement Party and State’s policies and regulations thoroughly while paying special attention to building a sound educational environment for students as well as fulfilling the five major tasks set out in the directive released by the Minister of Education and Training.

He expressed his hope that Chau Van Liem high school and other schools in Can Tho City and around the country will continue improving the quality of education and training.

Every teacher, he said should devote themselves to the younger generation, promote creativity in teaching skills and set a good example for students to follow.

He emphasised the need to launch emulation movements among pupils for a healthy education environment with a focus on applying information technology in teaching, studying and managing.

On the occasion, the PM asked the party committees and local authorities at all levels, as well as parents and citizens in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta to pay more attention to educating pupils and create the right conditions for them to study well.
