Party chief urges change in emulation movement

The General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Nong Duc Manh, has urged people from all walks of life to engage in the patriotic emulation movement.

National Patriotic Emulation Congress opens

At the 8th National Patriotic Emulation Congress opened in Hanoi on December 27, Mr Manh highlighted some weaknesses in the movement, such as poor awareness and a low sense of responsibility even among some chiefs of party committees, local people’s committees and other agencies.

Mr Manh pointed out that the organization of this movement was sometimes highly formal and saw inconsistencies and poor coordination among ministries and sectors.

The General Secretary spoke about the importance of emulation work in the context that Vietnam is going to implement the next socio-economic five-year plan, the socio-economic strategy for the 2011-2020 period, and the Party’s program for national construction in the period of transition to socialism.

He also emphasized the need to identify the right individuals and to commend and award them in a timely manner.

He provided some other specific guidance for the emulation movement in the next five years. This includes raising awareness of the importance of emulation, launching emulations attached to concrete duties, multiplying good examples set in the movement, revised laws on emulation, strengthening councils involved in the work, and enhancing the Party’s leadership role.

General Secretary Manh said emulation movements are expected to help build Vietnamese people who have a good sense of citizen responsibility and have good knowledge, good health, good skills, good ethics, rich patriotism and pure internationalism.

The two-day Congress is held at the My Dinh National Convention Centre.
