State President Nguyen Minh Triet on May 14 presented the Gold Star Order – the highest distinction of the Vietnamese Party and State – to Hoang Tung (known as Tran Khanh Tho), former Secretary of the 5th Party Central Committee and head of the Central Propaganda and Training Commission.

Mr Hoang Tung was born in 1920. He took part in revolutionary activities when he was just 15 years old. After the August Revolution in 1945, he held many important positions of the Party, such as Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong municipal Party Committee, deputy head of the Central Emulation Committee, and editor-in-chief of Su That (Truth) and Nhan Dan (People) newspapers.

On the occasion, President Triet asked officials in the field of propaganda and education to follow Mr Hoang Tung’s bright example to make further contributions to the country’s industrialization and modernization process towards socialism.
