Spain's Barcelona football club will organise a friendly football match with Vietnam's selected team next year and help train Vietnamese players.

The ideas were put forth at a meeting between Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Trong Hy and Business Development and International Marketing Director of Barcelona FC Joshua C. Thomson in Hanoi on August 12.

Accordingly, the Spanish team will come to Vietnam next May. Some of European players will not come to Vietnam as they return to their national team for EURO 2008 but idols such as Lionel Messi and Samuel E’to will show up in the line-up.

Mr Thomson spoke highly of Vietnam’s co-hosting the recent Asian Cup and the national team’s wonderful performance at the tournament. He suggested that Barcelona help build a football academy in Vietnam.

During a working session with representatives from the Hanoi Football Federation and the city's Physical Training and Sports Department on the same day, the visiting Spanish businessman offered coaching for the Hanoi team. General Secretary of the Hanoi Football Federation Pham Anh Tu said Hanoi will send five coaches to Barcelona for training.
