In January next year, Vietnam will host the second international conference to promote Vietnamese literature, especially in the integration and development process, said Huu Thinh, president of the Vietnam Writers Association.
Nearly 20 countries participated in the first international congress to promote Vietnamese literature held in 2002. Thirty works have been translated into foreign languages since this event.

The five-day meeting will begin on January 10, with an estimated 200 participants from 30 countries, comprising writers, translators and foreign researchers keenly interested in Vietnamese culture.

“At this event, we will provide foreign partners with an overview of Vietnamese literature,” said Mr Thinh. “We hope they would understand the characteristics of Vietnamese literature, its recent developments, famous authors through different periods, and the new generations of writers and translators and copy rights.

“We also expect to sign a contract at the conference for translation of certain foreign books,” he said.
